SUMMARY:Music over the Marsh - Steel City Rovers
DESCRIPTION:Watch them on YouTube \nThe Steel City Rovers perform dynamic and expressive music that is a unique composite of traditional Celtic music and North American styles including bluegrass\, folk and roots. Their original works touch on issues of love\, loss\, celebration and heritage and they also breathe life into newly-discovered instrumental melodies from as far back as centuries ago. Their sophisticated arrangements are inviting for the most casual listener but are rewarding for those who are well versed in the nuances of musical complexity. The Rovers stand out for their powerful\, emotive vocals and engaging entertainment. They perform on meticulously crafted replicas of historical instruments that rarely appear on today’s musical landscape. This highly active touring band headlines large festival stages\, gives intimate concert performances\, educates in a variety of workshop and master-class settings and performs internationally with symphonies. They create\, collaborate and work hard to further the love and awareness of music. \n  \n  \nSpecial thanks to our sponsor\, Explore Adirondack Frontier for making this concert possible. \n  \n \n

SUMMARY:Music over the Marsh - Kieran Kane & Rayna Gellert
DESCRIPTION:Crowd favorites Kane & Gellert will be returning to the VIC on Saturday\, July 13th! The duo from Dead Reckoning Records combines their unique styles to deliver an unforgettable performance of traditional music with a contemporary spirit. \nKieran Kane’s seminal work in The O’Kanes and Kane Welch Kaplin\, as well as co-founding the independent label Dead Reckoning Records\, laid the foundation for the contemporary world of Americana music. A successful solo artist\, collaborator\, and songwriter (with songs recorded by Alan Jackson\, John Prine\, Emmylou Harris\, and many more)\, Kieran is a musician’s musician: his playing is always understated\, always groove-oriented\, and always serving the song. \nIf Rayna Gellert seems a preternaturally gifted songwriter\, it’s because she’s seen farther into the old songs than most. Growing up in a musical family\, she turned to Appalachian old-time music at a young age\, becoming a prodigious fiddler and leading a new revival of American stringband music through her work with the acclaimed roots band Uncle Earl. An in-demand collaborator\, she has toured and recorded with artists such as Scott Miller\, Abigail Washburn\, Toubab Krewe\, and Robyn Hitchcock. \nKieran and Rayna first met\, fittingly\, at San Francisco’s celebrated Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival\, which led to their cowriting songs for Kieran’s solo album Unguarded Moments (Dead Reckoning). They joined forces again for Rayna’s 2017 release\, Workin’s Too Hard (StorySound Records)\, which they also co-produced. Their first duo album\, The Ledges\, was released in February of 2018 on Dead Reckoning Records\, followed up quickly by 2019’s When the Sun Goes Down. \n  \nSpecial thanks to our sponsor\, Explore Adirondack Frontier for making this concert possible. \n  \n  \n \n

SUMMARY:Walk with Grandma Wright
DESCRIPTION:Join our lovely VIC Volunteer\, Pamela “Grandma” Wright\, for a sensory-filled adventure on select Fridays throughout the summer. \nWe use our senses to experience the outdoors. Our walk\, aimed at ages 5-7\, will help children learn to use their senses to fully enjoy nature.  We will take a walk along the marsh side of the Barnum Brook trail to the Forest Megaphone\, looking and listening\, to discover whatever nature has to offer that day. Parents are expected to just tag along.  In order to fully focus on nature\, no cell phones or other devices may be used by anyone during the walk. The walk will take approximately 1 hr – 1.5 hrs and cover less than a mile in total with lots of stopping. \nWalk starts at 10 am on the following dates: 6/28\, 7/12\, 7/19\, 8/2\, 8/23 \nCheck in at the Frank M. Hutchins Lodge \n
