Is our water clean? It may seem like a simple question. You can tell by looking at it, right? That’s not always the case…
During this program, we will explore water quality by studying the organisms that live in Barnum Brook at the VIC. Aquatic macroinvertebrates can reveal clues about the health of our waterways. This program will have two components, an indoor primer to learn about aquatic macroinvertebrates and identification techniques, followed by an outdoor aquatic sampling activity. We will use what we find to discuss the water quality at Paul Smith’s VIC!
What to bring/wear: Weather permitting, we will be headed outside to Barnum Brook, a small stream that flows through the VIC property. We will be getting our feet wet, so bring water shoes or sandals and a change of clothes and dry shoes for after the program. Bug spray or bug nets are recommended!
Length of Program: This program will run between an hour and a half and two hours.
