Ski with a Scientist -Bill McKibben and Curt Stager

Bill McKibben is an environmentalist, author, and journalist who has written extensively on the impact of global warming. He has authored a dozen books about the environment, including the The End of Nature, regarded as the first book for a general audience about climate change, and has appeared in 24 languages.

Curt Stager is a Paul Smith’s College Professor, an ecologist, paleoclimatologist, and science writer with a Ph.D. in biology and geology from Duke University. He is a highly published scientific researcher on climate and ecology related articles in major journals, including Science and Quaternary Research, has written for popular audiences in periodicals such as National Geographic as well as in his book Deep Future.

Ski with a scientist is part of the Save Winter initiative for the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games. It is a comprehensive sustainability initiative that intersects climate awareness and winter sports.

Participants ski with experts in multiple fields that revolve around climate, reducing carbon inputs and how to create a sustainable future. Scientists will stop along the stunning winter landscape at the Paul Smith’s College VIC and present on their research.

The Paul Smith’s College VIC has over 25 miles of ski trails, a mix of groomed cross country trails suitable for skate skiing, narrow groomed trails for classic techniques and a remote backcountry ski zone on Jenkins Mountain. The VIC rents XC skis for just $15.

This is a fundraiser to benefit Paul Smith’s College , the VIC, sustainability and research. While this program is designed for a beginner skier we ask for a participant with some experience on skis. No snowshoes.
